1. london began as a roman settlement in ad1 43 and grew rapidly into a large market town. after the romans left in ad 410 the town declined because the new conquerors, anglo-saxons2, lived in small farming commu­nities.

a new era began for london when william the conqueror3 came to britain in 1066. medieval london ceased to exist on 2 september 1666 when a fire destroyed three-quarters of it. in the 18th and 19th centuries london developed as a commercial centre.

2. the gradual growth of the city helps to explain the fact that london does not have just one centre, it has a number of centres: the financial and business centre, the shopping and entertainment centre in the west end, the government centre in westminster.

museums and art galleries abound in london, but two of the best are the british museum and the national gallery. the british museum, which is still free to enter, is the oldest museum in the world and contains treasures from the roman, greek, egyptian, oriental and asiatic cultures. its important artefacts4 include egyptian mummies and their sarcophagi.

4. today, london is a huge metropolis, an ancient and ever changing city. most londoners as well as tourists agree with samuel jonson, who once said, "when a man is tired of london he is tired of life".

I leave the house early in the morning. The sun appears to slowly and not very hot. the morning is always gentle breeze. I like to watch as the fluttering trees and various flowers: daisies, violets, tulips. Then I go to the bus stop. On the bus I drive 10 minutes and during that time I can see many things: shops of clothes and shoes, food shopss, flower shops and ateliers. Also, I drive past the private houses. Especially in the spring, I am interested to look at the work of the people in the garden. Soon I come to school. while I go, I always watch the students from my school. Someone in a hurry and run quickly to the school, some go without haste. I look and draw conclusions from what I see.

 

Я выхожу из дома рано утром. Солнце потихоньку появляется и не очень жарко. утром всегда слабый ветер. мне нравится наблюдать как развеваются  деревья и разные цветы: ромашки, фиалки, тюльпаны. Дальше я иду на автобусную остановку. На автобусе я еду 10 минут и за это время могу увидеть многое: магазины одежды, обуви, продуктовые магазины, ателье и цветочные магазины. Также я проезжаю мимо частных домов. Особенно весной, мне интересно смотреть на работу людей в огороде. вскоре я приезжаю в школу. в то время как я иду, я всегда наблюдаю за учениками из моей школы.  I come from two worlds; one of fantasies and adventures, and another of reality and life. Throughout my life I have always loved books; I have always thought that the books that I read put me in a different world. Throughout my life I have graduated from Dr. Seuss books, to the Captain Underpants Series, to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. These books have shaped have shaped my personality and the dreams I am still chasing today. The other world that I live in would be the world of reality, whether I was with my family or my friends they have always reminded me of my dreams and ambitions there to help me with whatever I needed.
      Growing up I always thought to myself, I wish I was older, but now that I am older I keep wishing I was younger. Along with growth comes change. My life had changed in many aspects, from the books that I read to the dreams that I form. The books that I have read had taught me that in order to achieve your dreams you have to forget about the past, remain in the present and continue to think about the future. Reading these books have temporarily taken me out of my world and placed me along side with the cunning thieves, and heroic maidens. I have the invincible feeling that no matter what I want to do it will be possible.   They have taught me that you need to form realistic dreams, but to never be afraid to expand once you reach them. Since I was a little girl I have always wanted to be a veterinarian and to attend UC Davis, as I grew up the books

that I have read gave me the confidence and the drive I needed to continue with my dreams. Without this drive I would have never formed the dreams that I have and I would not have accomplished all the things that I have already. Thinking into the future I can not help but smile, because I know that with all the support I have I will be able to get anywhere.
