The official date of foundation of the city of Gorlovka is considered to be 1867. On the adjacent territory there are up to 100 funerary monuments of ancient peoples, and this testifies to the fact that people began to settle here several millennia earlier. Since April 2014, Horlivka has been located on the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic and is one of the centers of the unrecognized state. Public figures broke into the city council, after which the flag of the DPR was raised above it, and the city became subordinate to it.
