A story about a parrot
Once there lived a man who had a parrot. The man tried to teach the parrot to speak. But the parrot could learn only the phrase, “There is no doubt about it.” The parrot always said these words and always gave the same answer. “There is no doubt about it”.
At last the man decided to sell (продавать; sold = V 2) the parrot. He went to the street and began to cry, “Twenty dollars for a very clever parrot!”
One woman heard this. She came up to the parrot and asked, “ Are you worth twenty dollars?” The parrot answered, “There is no doubt about it”.
“What a clever parrot”, she said and bought the bird.
After some days the woman couldn’t listen to the parrot any more. She said, “What a fool I was to buy this parrot and throw away so much money.Twenty dollars!”
Then the parrot cried, “There is no doubt about it”.
This time the parrot was right.

In the shadow of those who receive gold, silver and bronze, there are stories of personal failures and failures of athletes who did not rise to the podium. For many people, failure is the most difficult emotional experience. But I learned to deal with a number of failures that I encountered in athletics.
First, I recognized this feeling as self-pity. I have learned to recognize and understand that I am in a difficult state, but I want to overcome it.
I felt that a more correct approach to myself would not be not self-hate, but self-understanding. It should also be recognized that other competitors are experiencing similar difficulties.
Second, I learned to believe in myself and my future success. Reading biographies of other athletes-their UPS and downs made me understand that we are all people and all have failures. Seeing a bright example of athletes who have achieved success through perseverance and pain of training, I understand that I should go through it with patience.
For many athletes who will inevitably face failures, being able to empathize with themselves is a vital skill for positive participation in competitions.
