Saffron Walden is a charming market town, just 15 miles to the
south of Cambridge. It can be 11EASILY reached by car or
public transport. The town has a rich heritage of old 12 BUILDINGS
Among them there is St Mary’s church, the largest and one of the
most beautiful churches in Essex, as well as a local museum.
This award-winning, "FRIENDLY, family-size museum”
opened in 1835. It has a wide-ranging 14 COLLECTION covering the
history of north-west Essex, from ancient times to the present
day.
A market has been held in Saffron Walden since 1141. Every
Tuesday and Saturday 15 SHOPPERS enjoy buying goods from
market stalls.
The largest turf labyrinth still surviving in Europe can be found
on the eastern side of the town. 16CHILDREN of all ages enjoy
following the “path” through the turf, which winds for about one
mile within a circle 100 feet in diameter.
