PETE’S WINTER HOLIDAYS
My name is Pete. I like winter, because I have my long winter holidays. They are from the 29 th of
December till the l0th of January.
The weather is usually fine. Sometimes the sun shines brightly ¹ and you can see a lot of snow
everywhere. During my holidays I have a lot of free time. It is not necessary² to get up early, I have
breakfast and then I
am free. I like to skate and to ski, if it is not too cold. My friends and I go to the skating rink ³. It is near
our house. There are usually a lot of young people there.
On Sundays my parents and I go to the forest to ski. I can ski well and I am fond of4 skiing.
During my holidays I spend a lot of timein the open air5. My friends ring me up6 and we go for a walk or
go to the yard to play snowballs and to make a snowman. When it is cold I stay at home, read books and
watch TV. Sometimes my friends come to see me and we play games. We are fond of computer games.
I like my winter holidays, as7 we have a happy day - New Year's Day on the lst of January. It is a fun
holiday and my parents and I prepare for8 it. We buy a New Year's tree9 and presents. I decorate
the New Year's tree. It is a good tradition to see the New Year in10 with my relatives and friends. I invite
my friends to celebrate this holiday together with us.
Sometimes my parents and I travel during my holidays. Last year we visited Suzdal. We went there by
bus and it took us11 5 hours to get there. We arrived in Suzdaland lived in a hotel for 3 days. I saw many
sights12 in this old town, for example, wooden houses and churches. It was a very impressive trip13.
English pupils have their winter holidays from around the 17th of December. The 25th of December is
Christmas Dayin England. It is a tradition to have a Christmas tree at home, a big turkey for a holiday
dinner and to give presents to each other14.
