The child sat on a rock and looked at the river. She sat (1) perfectly still, looking at the family of ducks circling around on the surface of the dark water. Her eyes were large (2) greyish in colour and solemn. It was a (3) wonderful day in August. The sky was a (4) beautiful blue arc and (5) untouched by clouds, the (6) golden sun - a perfect sphere , and on this (7) colourful summer's aftermoon nothing stirred. The only sounds were the faint (8) buzzing of a bee flying above the roses. The child remained fascinated by the wildlife on the river, and so intent was she in her (9) concentration that she hardly moved. Isn't it an ideal picture of one's happy (10) childhood.
The 1948 olympic games were (2) really (3) memorable because they were the first games after world war 2. People had not had games for 12 years. In 1948 the London (4) government didn't have money or (5) necessary materials to build a new olimpic stadium. Instead, sports events took place wherever (6) possible: in parks, sports grounds and halls around the city. The (7) famous athletes and just the (8) olympians stayed in dormitories in (9) unused military camps or in college rooms but in spite of all the (10) difficulties the games were very (11) successful and more than 4,000 athletes from 54 countries participated in them.
