The zoo was opened on June 1, 2000 on a picturesque island located on the Shoshinsky pond at the initiative of the People's Artist of the Mari ASSR Gabdulkhak Gibadullin. All these years, the Wildlife Corner was a structural subdivision of the Medvedevsky District Center for Culture and Leisure, and since 2015 it has been transformed into a separate legal entity, and received the name - the municipal autonomous cultural institution "Medvedevsky mini-zoo". In the mini-zoo, work is being carried out to maintain and reproduce a collection of local and exotic animals and birds in order to preserve the gene pool of different species. This year, new offspring of ducks, chickens, turkeys, peacock pigeons, rabbits, squirrels and goats have appeared. In March 2016, a Scottish pony was born at the zoo for the first time. Also, to replenish the collection, pairs of pheasants "Golden" and "Diamond", Carolina ducks, new breeds of rabbits and chickens, a Vietnamese pot-bellied dwarf pig were purchased. The Kazan Zoo and Botanical Garden presented a noose. Exotic animals also include a monkey, raccoon, llamas. Among the predatory animals there are wolves, bears and foxes. In general, the exposition is represented by more than 30 species and breeds of animals and birds. Their total number is over 130 heads. In the spring-summer period, excursions, circus performances with the participation of trained animals are held in the mini-zoo; boating and catamarans, a summer playground with two trampolines for children is being installed. Information booklets about the mini-zoo, calendars and magnets with zoo animals are distributed.
