Summer is my favorite season. Summer holidays give the longest rest from studying of the year that’s why I like them so much.In June I stayed at home and my parents were at work. But I was glad because at last I had time for myself. I read books, listened to music, watched films and visited my friend. I spend most days outdoors and got a nice sun tan. Then I spent two weeks in the summer camp on the seaside. It was a real fun. I met a lot of new friends. Every day we enjoyed something special - games, carnivals, competitions, performances. We went to the seaside twice a day. There we swam, bathed in the sun, played volleyball on the beach, made sculptures of sand. We had discos every night, but not too long. I guess, those were the most exciting weeks of the summer. It gave me bright impressions, lots of funny photos and some new friends. Then my parents were on vacation and so they took me to my parent’s place in the village. It’s a very picturesque place with a forest and a river nearby. I was happy to see my grandmother and grandfather. I spent hot days on the riverbank. Once we went hiking with my parents, made fire, gathered some berries. The summer forest is very beautiful. In the evening I usually helped in the garden.Last month of the summer I was at home again, having rest from such an intensive rest! I did usual things and prepared for school. I like my summer holidays!

Sam: Betty, quickly turn on the 5th channel.
Betty: Why? What's on?
Sam: My favourite TV show starts now.
Betty: You mean that program about science and technologies?
Sam: Yes, exactly. They tell lots of interesting things about new technologies.
Betty: Do they tell you that watching too much TV is unhealthy?
Sam: Come on, Betty. Don't be a bore.
Betty: Well, I wouldn't if you hadn't occupied the only TVset in the house for twenty-hours a day
Sam: This show lasts only for half an hour. Then I'll let you watch what you want.
Betty: Ok, turn it on.
Sam: Look! They are speaking about the history of TV
Betty: That's exatly what we need to know right now. In my opinion, TV was invented long before we were born.
Sam: Of course. Along with the radio it was one of the earliest broadcasting tools. The first mechanical televisions were sold in 1928. Later on, there were the first mass-produced units.
Betty: Well, the TV was black-and-white then. When did the color TV appear?
Sam: As far as I know, they came into wide use in late 1960s.
Betty: I still remember our first TV. It seems to be so old-fashioned now, when there are thousands of digital, LCD, plasma TVs.
Sam: You're right. We've also had a video recorder, which was gradually replaced by DVD player.
Betty: Why do people invent so many unnecessary devices?
Sam: Why unnecessary? I think they all make people's life easier. It's called the technological progress. Each year, there are newer devices launched on the market. Imagine how you would live without a vacuum-cleaner or a microwave. These automatic machines are nearly in every house today.
Betty: On the one hand, you are right. We really need such devices like washing machine, microwave, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner in the house. However, when it comes to TV, I think that we could easily live without it.
Sam: You're saying that because you have a computer. If you didn't have it, you would watch TV more often.
Betty: That's true. I watch most of the films on my laptop.
Sam: In my opinion, computer is the same TV only with additional information and facilities. It also has a screen and you can watch whatever you like on it.
Betty: Yes, but in addition I listen to music, type my homework, chat with my friends, edit photos, read the news and find all the necessary information via Internet.
Sam: I still think that TVset is a great invention. In fact, many modern TVs allow you to connect laptop or any other devices to it so that you can work on a larger screen.
