У нас, христиан, самая волшебная ночь в году происходит с 31 декабря по 1 января. Иудеи же ведут отчет наступления нового года совсем в другое время года – осенью. Называют этот праздник Рош а-Шана (в переводе с иврита «глава года»). Причем, установленной даты нового года в Израиле не существует. Иудеи празднуют Рош а-Шана в течение двух дней (они называются йом-ха-арихта) в новолуние, которое приходится на осенний месяц тишрей по еврейскому календарю. На наше летоисчисление это время приходится на сентябрь-октябрь.
