Продолжение: Even more troubling, I’ve encountered students who’ve been told they don’t have the capacity to grasp math and science.

These are lost opportunities.

I believe we owe our young an education that captures the exhilarating drama of science.

I believe the process of going from confusion to understanding is a precious, even emotional, experience that can be the foundation of self-confidence. I believe that through its rational evaluation of truth and indifference to personal belief, science transcends religious and political divisions and so does bind us into a greater, more resilient whole.

I believe that the wonder of discovery can lift the spirit like Brahms’s Third Symphony.

I believe that the breathtaking ideas of science can nourish not only the mind but also the soul.

A native New Yorker, BRIAN GREENE teaches physics and mathematics at Columbia University. He is a proponent of string theory, which attempts to unify all the forces of nature into a single framework. He authored The Fabric of the Cosmos and The Elegant Universe.

This wonderful story happened to me in my distant childhood. I forgot it a long time ago, but my parents told me about it recently. They say that I was 8 years old at the time. As always, in the summer my dad took me to my grandmother in the village, and then he left.

I remember exactly that life in the village was gorgeous. I had many friends, as well as free time. A lot of funny stories happened to me, because it's summer. It’s strange, I remember many, but I forgot the funniest one.

But more to the point, another summer, dad has already left, and I stayed to rest with my grandmother. Further, according to the parents. At that age, I was a very modest guy, I didn't make much noise, I didn't throw tantrums. But then my grandmother somehow calls my parents and says that I always ask to take some kind of machine gun with me at the table. Moreover, he does not understand what kind of machine gun, it seems that I did not have any machine gun in my toys. She tells them that she first arranged for me to eat, and then took my machine gun, and I looked at her in a very strange way.

The second, third time, I keep asking for the automatic machine without stopping, I have completely got out of my hands, and I openly show that this situation does not suit me at all. And by the way, my grandmother is of a strict temper, she knows how to educate, it is useless to carry machine guns to the table, but now I have already tired the poor granny completely, she can no longer resist. I ask you to take the machine gun again. I go to the refrigerator and get ... attention, ketchup. Looks like I called it tomato. My grandmother had round eyes, she just could not find words.

Now I can't even understand how I could forget such a wonderful story, but it seems to me that it is very funny. Recently I reminded my grandma about her, she also laughed a lot. Based on it, you can understand that you need to work on your speech, and very well!

The Kazan Cathedral – a masterpiece of the early 19th-century Russian architecture – was built by Andrei Voronikhin. The building of the Kazan Cathedral was completed in 1811 and took ten years. The cathedral stands with its north façade facing Nevsky Prospect. On either side of the building runs a monumental semicircular colonnade of 96 Corinthian columns the outside wings of which end in grandiose portals. The southern and western entrances to the cathedral are similarly ornamented with six columned porticoes with pediments and approached by broad staircases. The huge windows in the building and the fine semicircular colonnade lend the whole edifice a restrained monumental character together with an unusual impression of lightness.
