Many American children between the ages of two and seven believe in Santa Claus. Santa Claus is an imaginary person. He has a white beard and wears a red suit with white fur. He lives far away at the North Pole.

Joe’s nephew, Jason, is five years old. He believes in Santa Claus. He believes that Santa Claus brings presents to all good children. Parents always tell their children that bad children don't get presents, they get coal. But, of course, Santa never gives coal. Every year a few weeks before Christmas, Jason’s mother helps her son write a letter to Santa Claus. In this letter he tells Santa everything that he wants for Christmas.

Santa doesn't go to the houses on Christmas Eve until all the children have gone to bed. Santa travells in a sleigh. He lands his sleigh on the roof. This is because Santa doesn't enter a house through the door, he always goes down the chimney.

Jason always hangs a big red stocking on the fireplace before he goes to bed. Santa fills this with fruit, candy, and small toys. He leaves the big presents under the Christmas tree. Of course, he doesn’t bring everything that the children ask for.

Jason always leaves a plate of cookies for Santa. His parents secretly eat them, but they don’t tell Jason this. Jason thinks that Santa ate them.

Jason doesn’t sleep very late on Christmas Day. He wakes up his parents at about six in the morning because he wants to go downstairs to open his presents.
