In the windows, we see samples of the things
which they sell, advertise offers, discounts and

supermarkets in Great Britain, but there were a
lot of small shops. People went to the shops almost
every day because they didn't have fridges. They went to the butcher
to buy meat. They went to the grocer for tea, sugar, flour and cheese.
They bought butter and milk at the diary. They bought bread at the
bakery. They bought fruit and vegetables at the greengrocer.
Customers had to ask the grocer for the things they wanted to buy as
they didn't have the freedom of pushing a trolley around a supermarket
and pick their own shopping like people do today.
