Stanley. What’s it out like today?
Petey. Very nice.
Stanley. Warm?
Petey. Well, there’s a good breeze blowing.
Stanley. Cold?
Petey. No, no. I wouldn’t say it was cold.
Meg. What are the cornflakes, Stan?
Stanley. Horrible.
Meg. Those flakes? Those lovely flakes? You’re a liar, they are refreshing. It says so. For people when they get up late.
Stanley. The milk’s off.
Meg. It’s not. Petey ate his, didn’t you, Petey?
Petey. That’s right.
Meg. There you are then.
Stanley. All right, I’ll go on to the second course.
Meg. He hasn’t finished the first course and he wants to go on to the second course!
Stanley. I feel like something cooked.
Meg. Well, I’m not going to give it to you.
Petey. Give it to him.
Meg. I’m not going to.

A poll of 10,000 single British men found 68 per cent preferred fresh-faced women rather than those plastered in makeup.
It didn’t, however, take into account those women who claim to need a case-load of cosmetics simply to achieve that nomake-up look.
Ninety-three per cent of British women use some kind of cosmetics. Some use up to 20 different products as part of their daily routine. In fact, Britons spend ₤5billion a year on cosmetics, no doubt largely financed by women adding to their bulging makeup bags.
But it seemed the highly groomed, highly made-up look favoured by singer Christina Aguilera could be making way for the more understated approach of Gwyneth Paltrow. She turned up at last month’s Glastonbury Festival looking particularly fresh-faced.

The waitress came running with two heavy mugs, and fussed over my companion.
“Silly girl,” he said when the waitress had bounced away. “She thinks I’ve got a pull. Nobody’s got a pull any more.” He leaned across the scarred table, sipping at his coffee. “Now tell me about poor Maude. Without coffee, I couldn’t take it.”
