I love ball games, and most of all I love football. This is a very interesting game, full of excitement. It came to us from England, although even in ancient Egypt and the Mayans had similar ball games. Today, football is the most common sport in the world. Millions of people do it in their spare time, and truly billions watch the world championships. Professional players, football stars, have become idols of entire nations. You can name Diego Maradona, Paolo Maldini, Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Andrey Arashavin, Andrey Shevchenko.
This sport develops speed, intelligence, accuracy of reaction and endurance. Football players are very seasoned people, because they chase the ball in the fresh air from early spring to late autumn. Football is a team game and develops cohesion and team spirit. And most of all I am attracted by the unsurpassed excitement of this game!
I follow the Russian and world football championships. I also hope that one day the European Championship will be hosted by Russia, like this year Ukraine. Of course, I wished with all my heart that our national team would reach at least the quarterfinals at Euro 2012. But, alas...
I also play football myself. From spring to autumn, we chase the ball on the sports field and the school stadium. And in winter, I play football in the indoor hall of the sports complex.
My favorite football team is Zenit St. Petersburg, and in Europe — English Arsenal, Italian AC Milan. I also support the Ukrainian "Shakhtar". I haven't been to big stadiums or big matches yet. I only went to cheer for our local team, which plays in the second division of the national championship. But when I grow up, I will definitely go to a serious championship and see the game of high-class football players.

Сегодня футбол — самая распространенный вид спорта в мире. Миллионы людей занимаются им в свободное время, а поистине миллиарды смотрят мировые чемпионаты. Профессиональные игроки, звезды футбола, стали кумирами целых народов. Можно назвать Диего Марадону, Паоло Мальдини, Рональдо, Зинедина Зидана, Андрея Арашавина, Андрея Шевченко.
Этот вид спорта развивает скорость, сообразительность, точность реакции и выносливость. Футболисты очень закаленные люди, ведь они гоняют мяч на свежем воздухе с ранней весны до поздней осени. Футбол является командной игрой и развивает сплоченность и командный дух. А больше всего меня привлекает непревзойденный азарт этой игры!
Я слежу за российскими и мировыми чемпионатами по футболу. Еще надеюсь, что когда-нибудь чемпионат Европы, будет принимать Россия, как в этом году Украина. Конечно, я всей душой желал, что на Евро-2012 наша сборная выйдет хотя бы в четвертьфинал. Но, увы...
Я сам тоже играю в футбол. С весны до осени мы гоняем мяч на спортплощадке и школьном стадионе. А зимой я занимаюсь футболом в крытом зале спортивного комплекса.
Моя любимая футбольная команда — питерский «Зенит», а в Европе — английский "Арсенал", итальянский «Милан». Еще я болею за украинский «Шахтер». I've been meaning to write to you for ages now so don't worry! How did your exams go? When will you know your results? I'm sure you did brilliantly as always!
As for me, I'll have been in the new job three months by the end of next week so I'm feeling more settled in. At first I felt like I had no idea what I was doing but now I realise it's normal to feel like that. There was a lot to learn – there still is actually – and I soon had to get used to the idea that I can't know everything. I used to work late a lot and at weekends but I'm slowly getting into a normal routine.
Which means I'd love to come and visit! We really need a good catch up! I can't believe we haven't seen each other since Carl's wedding. How does next month sound?
Anyway, I'd better get back to work.
