Autumn, or Harvest Festival, in Russia has long been celebrated on September 21. It is dedicated to family well-being, fertility and symbolizes the gratitude of the people for the harvest. Similar new crop holidays are celebrated in different countries.Harvest day falls on September 21-the Nativity of the virgin. It is celebrated just after the harvest when the crop is in the bins. In celebration of the harvest, it was traditionally accepted with caravans and kissel to meet the mother of Autumn (the virgin herself) by the water, to thank her for fertility, rich harvest and well-being in families. It is believed that it protects agriculture. At the river the people were entertained with games and songs.
