Sometimes when we simply say “Hello!” meeting people and “Good Bye!” leaving, it shows our good manners. It is also necessary to use polite words in formal situations and when talking to strangers or elderly people. For men it is a good manner to let women go first. Most people hold doors for the next visitor in stores, restaurants and other public places. Young people ought to give place to older and disabled people in public transport. Pregnant women and little children also have a priority in such situations. When there is a variety of silverware in front of you, it’s a good idea to start with the knife, fork or spoon that is farthest from your plate. There are many different holidays. The first of January we celebrate the New Year. On the seventh of January and the twenty-fifth of December we have Christmas. February 23rd is the Day of Defenders of the Fatherland or Army Day. On March 8, we congratulate our mothers, grandmothers, sisters and all women on their holiday. Then comes Easter and Radonitsa. May Day is Labor Day. May 9th is Victory Day. Third of July is Independence Day. Then comes the seventh of November, October Revolution Day and so on.
But our favorite holidays are Christmas and New Year. They are full of magic, gifts and hopes.
Every year we arrange a Christmas tree and decorate it with toys, tinsel and colorful lights. We send and receive many greeting cards. We buy and give gifts to our dearest and closest. I love to receive gifts. Last year my parents gave me a wonderful game and a lot of tasty things. Next year I would like to have a puppy because I like pets and I want to take care of someone. Puppies are so adorable. I am going to do something with my own hands for mom, dad, grandfather and grandmother.
We usually have a gala dinner with lots of goodies. When the clock strikes twelve, adults raise a toast for the New Year and wish each other a "Happy New Year." Then we dance, sing songs, watch holiday TV, or go for a walk and play games. I think this is the best holiday.
