Попытаюсь немного объяснить твои примеры.
Прямая речь (direct speech) - это речь, когда два или больше людей просто говорят свои слова, общаются напрямую.
Косвенная речь (reported speech) - это речь, когда один человек в диалоге говорит слова другого. Причём эти слова другого были сказаны перед началом данного диалога.
Как меняются глаголы:
