The city of Kyiv is the oldest and best Ukrainian city. He is more than one and a half thousand years old. It has always been the main city of Ukraine. There is a legend that it was founded by three brothers - Kiy, Chek, Horiv and their sister Lybid. They stood above the Dnieper and the oldest said that they would build a city here for themselves and visiting merchants. And they called it Kyiv. It stands now on the steep green slopes, above the blue valley of the old Dnipro-Slavuta, ancient and eternally young, rising above the centuries like a mighty oak. It is now the capital of our country - Ukraine. Kyiv is rightfully called a city of ancient culture, a wonderful architectural monument of our glorious heroic history, shrouded in gray antiquity, poetic tales, and wonderful legends. There are many churches in the city, among them such glorified ones as St. Volodymyr's Cathedral, St. Sophia's Cathedral, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. They are world-famous monuments of Slavic culture. The city has many museums, theaters, monuments and historical places.
