The Festival called ”Rock above Volga“, was based in 2009 in Samara region. Volga is the name of the longest river in Europe. The Festival is held in the beginning of June. This year it was on the 8th of June.
The best representatives of Russian and foreign rock music took part in the festival. Russian groups: “Smyslovye galutzinatzii”, “B-2”, ”Chizh&Co”, ”Picnik”, “Akvarium”, ”Kipelov” and ”Alice” brought their new songs and compositions.
Foreign musicians come to the festival every year. World stars as : Deep Purple, Scunk Anansie, Tarja Turunen, Apocalyptica, the British rocker Ken Hensley, the French singer Isabelle Geffroy(ZAZ), American groups Garbagge and Limp Bizkit took part in it.
The German band Rammstein was a headliner of the festival this year. They brought their famous show to Russia.
On the next day the German group traveled by the ship along the river Volga. Then they visited the village Shiryaevo, located on the bank of the river Volga. Villagers dressed in folk clothes met musicians. They had tea with pancakes and jam from green fir cones.
More than 1,4 million of people have visited the Festival during five years. This is the biggest open-air concert in the world. About 700 thousand spectators visited the Festival this year.
