Yellowstone National Park is the first national park in the USA and in the world. It was established in 1872 by the United States Congress. In 1978 the park was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Yellowstone National Park is situated mostly in Wyoming, with small sections in Montana and Idaho. It covers almost 9,000 square km of land. About 5% of the park is covered by water; 15% is grassland; and 80% is forest.
Yellowstone is visited by four million tourists each year. This place is known for more than 300 geysers, the spectacular Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, 290 waterfalls, and the wildlife.
Yellowstone is home to such animals as grizzly bears, elk, mule deer, American bison, moose and wolves. All wildlife, especially bison and bears, can be dangerous, that is why all visitors must know and follow the park regulations.
Yellowstone is associated with the Indian tribes, as Native Americans have lived in this region for at least 11,000 years.
