On October 15 1943, the Germans attacked one of the dominant heights north of Nevel in large forces. It was at this height that the defensive positions of the battalion, in which the machine gunner Mametova served. Under cover of heavy artillery fire, the Germans launched an attack. However, the aimed fire of the machine gunner squad (3 machine gun crews) stopped this attack. Then the German artillery and mortars concentrated fire on the machine-gun nests.
More than 70 fascists were destroyed by a brave girl in that battle. When reinforcements arrived, the soldiers found Manshuk near the machine gun - she died of blood loss, and her fingers gripped the trigger of the machine gun with a dead grip.
