I couldn't believe that I could actually understand what I was reading. The ... power of the human mind, according to a research at Cambridge university, it doesn't matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be in the right place. The rest can be a total mess and you can still read it without a problem. This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself, but the word as a whole. Amazing huh? History is one of my favourite subjects at school. I like it because it is interesting to learn about the main historical events that changed the world — wars, discoveries and inventions, disasters, lives of famous people.
Nowadays we can get a lot of information about historical events not just from books, newspapers and museums, but also from the Internet. There are hundreds of web-sites that we can surf in search of the information we need. I also like watching documentaries and reading historical fiction.
Studying history is important because it allows us to understand our past, which in turn allows us to understand our present. History teaches us how and why our world is the way it is today. People often say that “history repeats itself,” but if we study the successes and failures of the past, we probably will be able to learn from our mistakes and avoid repeating them in the future.
Unfortunately, people not always learn lessons of history. The reason is simple — despite the progress in science and technology human nature never changed. All the human emotions are the same today as thousands of years ago: love, hate, anger, ambition, compassion, lust for power, jealousy...
Nevertheless, we must learn history for the purpose of better understanding of ourselves and our ancestors.
