New Year in Russia is celebrated on January 1, the first day of the Gregorian Calendar. In earlier times, New Year was celebrated in the month of September. Later, this day was forbidden by Czar Peter, the Great. In 1699, a decree was read about counting of years from Birth of Christ since January 1. Thus, this day was declared as a New Year's day in Russia. Since then, New Year became a family holiday for the people of Russia.New Year Traditions Amongst the most popular New Year symbols is a New Year's Tree called Novogodnaya Yolka which is topped with a bright star and decorated with various sweets. Another popularly celebrated New Year tradition is the arrival of Ded Moroz or Father Frost and his granddaughter Snegurochka the snow girl. ( любое имя ) how are you getting on? i have not heard from you for ages. where have you been? i am fine. you asked me about my summer holidays, so i’m glad to write about it.this summer i rested in the village. i visited my grandmother and helped her about the house. i also watered the flowers. it was my duty. in our garden there are so many tasty berries: raspberry, strawberry and wild strawberry. i love berries. my grandmother and i together picked them and enjoyed ourselves. in july i went to my grandfather, to rybinsk. there we went to the forest to gather mushrooms. in the forest our parents found a lot of mushrooms. once we went to the cinema to see a very interesting movie. we also went to the pool. there was a lot of fun! sometimes we went to the river to swim. on the river we had rest with my relatives, barbecuing and swimming. it was really a great adventure! then we went st. petersburg to visit my uncle and my aunt. we all together went to the zoo. there were a lot of different animals: camels, tigers, bears, a lama, wolves, flamingos and many others. most of all i liked the peacock. he has a very beautiful and lush tail. i also liked the tiger. he jumped up and played with his toys. there were so many interesting events last summer! i think i’ll remember them for a long time! i am sorry, i have to stop now. please, write how you spend your summer holidays this year. say hello to your relatives. hope to hear from you soon. write soon! betty.
