Americans generally don’t favor tea. The nation prefers coffee. There is a curious
historical 1EXPLANATION to that. During the colonial period, the British
East India Company tried to establish a monopoly on tea trade in North America. The
British 2GOVERNMENT supported these policies imposing new taxation.
This led to growing opposition among the 3 POPULATION of the
colonies so that tea agents canceled orders and merchants (купцы) refused to buy
English tea. In December 1773, three British tea-carrying ships arrived in Boston.
The citizens planned an act of protest against the British. On the night of 16
December, a group of about sixty men, with the 4 ENCOURAGEMENT
by a large crowd of 5 BOSTONS, disguised themselves as Indians,
boarded the ships, and dumped the tea chests worth thousands of pounds into the
water. In response to this demonstration, the British Parliament passed the series of 6 PUNISHED measures. Such punishment served only to further unite
the colonies – and soon the War Independence began.
