A sporting tradition in Belarus
There are a lot of sports that are popular in Belarus. Some sporting traditions, such as wrestling, running, jumping, archery, horse riding, are quite old, but there are also a few newer activities that came to our country in the 20th century.
One of these more recent traditions is ice hockey. It is believed to be the best loved sport in Belarus. Ice hockey began to develop in the country in the late 1940s. The leading club is Dinamo Minsk, which has repeatedly changed its name. Dinamo Minsk players traditionally form the core of the Belarusian national team.
In May 1992 Belarus became a member of the IIHF and the national ice hockey championship has been held since that year. In the 1990s, there were only three indoor skating rinks in the country (two in Minsk, one in Novopolotsk). Today Belarus has about 30 indoor skating rinks.
Amateur ice hockey is also popular in Belarus. There is the amateur Night Hockey League (NHL) in Minsk (they play all games late at night) and the Golden Puck nationwide ice hockey tournament (for children and teenagers).
Есть много видов спорта, популярных в Беларуси. Некоторые из них, например борьба, бег, прыжки, стрельба из лука, верховая езда, довольно старые, но есть и несколько новых видов, которые пришли в нашу страну в XX веке.
Одна из этих более поздних традиций — хоккей на льду. Считается, что это самый любимый вид спорта в Беларуси. Хоккей начал развиваться в стране в конце 1940-х годов. Ведущий клуб — «Динамо Минск», который неоднократно менял название. Минские динамовцы традиционно составляют ядро белорусской сборной.
В мае 1992 года Беларусь стала членом МФК, и с этого года проводится национальный чемпионат по хоккею. В 1990-х годах в стране было только три крытых катка (два в Минске, один в Новополоцке). Сегодня в Беларуси около 30 крытых катков.
Любительский хоккей также популярен в Беларуси. В Минске есть любительская "Ночная хоккейная лига" (НХЛ) (они играют все игры поздно вечером) и общенациональный турнир по хоккею с шайбой "Золотая шайба" (для детей и подростков).
