My name is Marina. I’m fourteen years old and I’m a pupil of the state secondary school. The city where I was born and raised is Krasnodar. It’s a regional capital and administrative center, situated in the south part of Russia. The city is rather big. It houses hundreds of enterprises and factories. The population is very close to one million. I’m sure when it approaches this number the city authorities will build a metro. In my opinion, subway stations would be very helpful in such city as Krasnodar. At the moment we’re having heavy traffic on the roads. If this problem would be solved, my city on the whole is very beautiful and comfortable for living. It is full of large malls, cinemas, theatres, galleries and exhibitions. When I want to spend my weekend pleasantly I go with my friends to the city center to one of the pizza places or cinemas. Another good place for friendly party is a bowling alley. My favourite part of the city is Krasnaya Street. It is the oldest and the most beautiful central street of Krasnodar. Full of interesting monuments, alleys and sights it attracts thousands of tourists. The street is very convenient for evening and weekend walks as it’s partially closed. I should mention that Krasnodar is rather multinational. Many southern nations inhabit my home city, including the Russians, the Armenians, the Georgians, the Circassians, the Greeks, etc. That’s why there is a wide choice of restaurants with national cuisines. As for me, I love all kinds of domestic animals: cats, dogs, hamsters, turtles, rabbits, parrots, etc. If I could choose, I’d keep all of these animals in our flat, but my mum and dad are against it. They allow me to keep only one cat and two hamsters. The cat’s name is Barsik and the hamsters’ names are Nicky and Rich. Nicky is a girl and Rich is a boy. They are very cute. Barsik doesn’t seem to like them much, so I try to keep them in separate rooms. I know that English people like pets too. Most of them live in detached houses far from the noise of the cities. That’s why they can afford having two, three and more pets. I have a pen friend from Chesterfield. Her name is Ann. In a recent letter to me she wrote that they have six pets: two dogs, three cats and a rabbit. I think she is one lucky girl! When I ask my mum to buy a dog, she says that she doesn’t want to turn our flat into the zoo. From one hand, I understand her. All pets need proper care, lots of effort and attention. For example, last time when my cat got sick, we spent a whole week at the veterinary clinic. As for dogs, they also need lots of medicine and injections. I will need to walk it at least twice a day. I will need to be careful of ticks in the grass. It means that keeping a pet is a very responsible hobby. That’s why my parents don’t want many of them in the flat. Oh well, they promised to get a small aquarium with fishes for me next week.
