Mara Campos _became a rising star in the Progressive Party. She _began her political career while she was studying at Woodsville University. When she first stood as a candidate for Woodsville, she _didn`t win__ (not/ to win) many votes – Woodsville is a traditional town, and no woman _had ever been _ (ever/ to be) a candidate there before. “They _elected (to elect) the same man, year after year, “she told me” , and they just laughed_ ( to laugh) at me when I _got up__( to get up) to speak”.
