During the years of 1852-1854 Verne was working as a secretary of the director of Théâtre Lyrique, then worked on the exchange, without stopping writing comedies, librettos, stories.
On 9 March 1886, Verne was shot by his nephew in his left leg. The travelling was now out of question. Shortly before his death, Vern went blind, but still continued to dictate books. The writer passed away on March 24, 1905, from diabetes. After his death, there remained a  filing cabinet containing over 20,000 notebooks with information from all areas of human knowledge.
