Или вот еще определение (оно мне больше нравится): географической долготой называют часть дуги экватора, которая заключена между начальным меридианом и меридианом исследуемой точки.
это расстояние показывающая удаление точки от экватора в градусах северной или южной широты!
долгота это расстояние в градусах от нулевого меридиана восточной или западной долготы
