24 июля 2014 года стартует проект Республиканского общественного объединения "Казахстанское национальное географическое общество" (КНГО), посвященный 180-летию со дня рождения великого казахского ученого, путешественника - Шокана Уалиханова. Группа отечественных географов, историков, биологов, этнографов и языковедов отправится в экспедицию "По караванному пути Шокана Уалиханова" в Кашгарию. Об этом корреспонденту рассказал руководитель экспедиции, доктор географических наук Орденбек Мазбаев.
По его словам, в течение 12 дней участникам экспедиции предстоит преодолеть маршрут протяженностью в шесть тысяч километров по территории КНР и Кыргызстана: Астана (Алматы) - Урумчи - Карашахар - Корла - Кучар - Аксу - Кашгар - Артуш - Янгисар - Яркенд - Кагалык - Хотан -Кашгар - Турагат - Нарын -Таш-Рабат - Бишкек - Астана (Алматы). Ученые изучат туристские возможности Великого шелкового пути в современных условиях, разработают международные туры с охватом территорий Казахстана, СУАР КНР и Кыргызстана.
Кроме этого, участники экспедиции планируют собрать материалы по истории, географии, этнографии, языкознанию Кашгарии, изучить маршруты таких великих путешественников как Марко Поло, Шокан Уалиханов, Николай Пржевальский, Петр Козлов, Алексей Куропаткин, Карл Маннергейм, Аурел Стейн, Свен Гедин, Гуннар Ярринг и Юрий Рерих.
