1. While I (a burglar) (climbed) into the room through the window.
The correct answer is "was sleeping". This is because the verb "climbed" indicates a past action that was happening at the same time as another past action, which is indicated by the word "while". In this case, the other past action is "I" (the person speaking) sleeping.
Thus, the correct form is "While I was sleeping, a burglar climbed into the room through the window."

10. I got lost in the forest because I (took) the road I (before).
The correct answer is "had never taken". This is because "got lost" is referring to a past event, and we need to indicate that the action of taking the road happened before that past event. The word "before" indicates that the action of taking the road happened at a time before getting lost in the forest.
Thus, the correct form is "I got lost in the forest because I had never taken the road before."

13. We (TV) for ten minutes when the electricity went off.

Thus, the correct form is "We were watching TV for ten minutes when the electricity went off."
