Olesya, Year 6

I live in the country. Such places always have positive and negative aspects, but I love my quiet life. I am not a fan of the fast rhythm of a big city. I don't need all these modern things to make my life easier. After school I usually help my mum on the farm and then spend my free time somewhere in the wild. It's great fun to enjoy local nature with its beautiful waterfalls and forests. I paint my pictures there. I dream of being an artist, by the way. However, my mates don't understand me — they are always complaining about the lack of entertainment and they would like to leave this place once they finish school. At least that's their choice. I've already made mine.

Misha, Year 5

I love trying something new — it is really cool. My school started offering a course in ice cream making and cocktail making classes. I have been dreaming of being a cook all my life! I've tried to make a lot of desserts and made dozens of YouTube videos, so I am a bit popular, you know. That's why I took these courses with great pleasure. Three months later I became the best at making cocktails in the group! But you know what? My parents don't want me to go there any more. They say it's too expensive for them to pay for the courses and buy all these ingredients! I was so sad and was trying to organise a local market, you know, a fair to sell my desserts and get some money, but I couldn't. My town is too small to organise such events. What a shame!

Inna, Year 5

I have been dreaming about the career of a dancer since I first saw Carlos Acosta dancing in the Bolshoi Theatre. It was a school trip to the capital of my country. So, I have danced every day ever since. I attended a local dance school, but it was so boring and not modern. Now I have to watch YouTube videos to know what's trending. I dance at my school and at home, but that's not enough. Our town is too small to organise festivals or concerts, where I could show my talent. So, I master my craft and dream of performing somewhere on a big stage. Maybe one day I'll be a superstar.

Andrew, a teacher

I live in the suburbs but work in the centre of a big city. My school is quite nice with all the modern conveniences, but it is only because of its location. I am very lucky to work here, not in the school near my house which is very old and ugly because there is no money to repair it. This difference between the centre and suburbs is problematic. The area where I live in is really awful, with no sport clubs and places of entertainment. Our local park is a total disaster. It is covered with rubbish, and nobody knows what to do with it. All this stuff leads to problems with teenagers. Those who have the opportunity to go to the centre every day can have a good education and do different free-time activities, but there aren't many people like that.

Igor, a parent

I live in the city centre, which provides an opportunity for my children to have a good education and develop. However, the park nearby is a real problem. There is too much rubbish there, so it is even dangerous to walk there or have picnics. I am always quite worried when my children play games or just have fun there. I was trying to solve the problem by organising a cleaning day. Some people came once, but nobody came back. It was a total failure. OK, if people find it difficult to clean, why are they still so messy? I have to clean the park by myself every Saturday because I am worried about my children's health. If I don't do this, nobody will.

For students in the USA and the UK, it's customary to spend their free time in school, participating in various activities. Everyone can find something he or she likes. Each school offers a wide range of activities. Among them, I would like to mark painting, sculpture, professional photographer classes. Besides those activities, lots of sport activies can be taken. Those include, for example, golf, football, soccer, tennis(big as well as table).

In addition, students do a lot of volunteering. They even have special standards- one should volunteer, let's say, 30 hours in a month. This also gets students occupied with something, developing sympathy as well.

Yet some outdoor activities are widespread as well. As all the teenagers round the world, teenagers in the US and the UK spend their free time outdoor, playing sports, going somewhere to have fun or just talk and gossip sometimes.

Birthday is a very wonderful day. Everybody likes to celebrate it. It is a good opportunity to relax and spend time with friends, parents, relatives. My name is Olga.  I’m twelve years old. I have one main and particular day in the year. It’s my birthday. There are a lot of holidays throughout the year but of course the most memorable is the birthday.     How do I spend the party? I was born in winter, in December, so the weather is usually cold at this time and we arrange a birthday party at home. I invite my family members and my best friends. Mum and granny cook a lot of tasty and delicious things for our festive dinner. We clean the flat and decorate it with balloons. When guests come we have a hearty dinner.  My mum brings the birthday cake in. Then I puff the candles out. Guests sing songs and dance, play games and joke, laugh or tell funny stories. Then we play different games.  As for birthday presents, of course, I like to receive something interesting. I know that today many people prefer rational gifts, for example money or something valuable. For some of them it is even a common practice to say in advance what they would like to receive. I agree that on the one hand such reasonable approach is rather convenient. At least, you are sure that you won’t receive any unwanted junk, and your friends won’t have to break their heads over this issue. But on the other hand, to my mind, it’s too boring. I like surprises, so I prefer something inexpensive, but unusual and memorable.  During our merry party we do not only sing songs, dance, and make jokes but we also speak about our life, hobbies, and future. As for me, as I have already mentioned, my birthday is one of the most wonderful days in the year. I am always happy to have a nice day with my friends.
