Lidiya Skoblikova was born in 1939 in Zlatoust, a small town in Ural. In her (2.CHILD) Lida was a very sporty girl; she was fond of volleyball, basketball and skiing. At the age of 16 she started speed skating, and in three years she (3.SUCCESS) in the national championships. She repeated that (4.PERFORM) at the world championships, winning two distance medals as well.
Skoblikova represented the USSR Olympic team during the Olympic Winter Games in 1960, 1964 and 1968. She also won 25 gold medals at the world championships and 15 gold medals at the USSR National Championships in several distances.
