Electric currents and their properties

Conduction is the name normally given to a movement or flow of charges. The charges are usually electrons, but may also be ions when the conduction takes place in gaseous or liquid conductors, in which the ions are mobile.

How does the current flow through a wire? A metal is made up of tiny crystals which are visible under a microscope. A crystal is a regular and orderly arrangement of atoms. As it was explained, an atom is a complex particle in which tiny electrons move around nucleus. When the atoms are tightly packed as they are in a metallic solid, some of the electrons move freely between the atoms. These are called free electrons. Ordinarily, the free electrons move at random through the metal. There must be some driving force to cause the electrons to move through the metal conductor. This driving force tending to produce the motion of electrons through a circuit is called an electromotive force or e.m. f. that moves electric charges from one point in the circuit to another.

When an electromotive force is applied to the ends of a wire the free electrons move in one direction. It is the movement of the free electrons in a conductor that induces an electric current. The greater the number of participating electrons, the greater is the flow of current.

No one has ever seen analectic current. We only know of the existence of a current by its effects. A current can heat a conductor, it can have a chemical action when passing through a solution, or it can produce a magnetic effect. We can measure currents by observing their heating, their chemical, or their magnetic effects.

There are some kinds of current, namely: a direct current (d. c, for short), an alternating current (a. c.) a pulsating current.

Many people like watching TV in their free time. It’s one of my favourite pastimes too. However, I try not to spend a lot of time in front of the screen. I usually watch music channels, new and interesting films, funny cartoons and educational programs. I’d like to tell you a little bit about my favourite TV program. It’s an informative show called “Galileo”. It is named after a famous scientist Galileo Galilei, who liked making experiments. I watch this program regularly and try not to miss the next issue. It is usually shown at weekends. Each time the presenter of the program Alexander Pushnoy explains different phenomena of nature and shows amazing experiments. Most of all I like the part with these experiments. In my opinion, “Galileo” show is interesting not only for children but also for adults. Not every adult knows seemingly obvious facts. For example, why the sky is blue, why the sugar is sweet, how the paste is colored in tubes. This program can surprise even the most skeptical spectator. Usually each edition contains five different stories and experiments.

My favourite TV programme. It is called "Fear factor". This is an American sports stunt reality show. The host is Joe Rogan. In the beginning of each programme Joe says: "The stunts you are about to see were all designed and supervised by trained professionals. They are extremely dangerous and should not be attempted by anyone, anywhere, anytime".   And  this is true!!
The normal format involves three men and three women, who have to complete three professional stunts to win US $ 50,000. If a contestant is too scared to attempt a stunt, failed to complete a stunt, or had the worst performance on a stunt, he\she is eliminated from the competition. Sometimes the stunts are really scary. For example, one has to jump from one biulding to the other and the height is over 50 meters.
The player  with the best performance wins the grand prize, usually $ 50,000, and had the privilege of being informed by Joe Rogan that "evidently, fear is not a factor for you".
As for me, I think I could complete some of the stunts. Unfortunatelly, one has to live in the USA to take part in the programme.
