Percy Spencer was born on July 9, 1894 , in Main, USA. He was a scientist who invented the microwave. Percy’s father died when he was a baby and after his uncle also died, when he was seven he had to leave school and get a job. Every day Percy worked very hard from the early morning till the end of the day to help his family. When he was 18 Percy joined the Navy. He was very interested in electricity and science and taught himself all about physics, chemistry and radio technology in the evenings!
One day during an experiment with microwave, he noticed that a chocolate bar in his pocket had melted. Percy decided to experiment with different foods and invented microwave. The first microwave in 1947 was nearly two metres tall and cost 5000 dollars! He died on September 8, 1970, aged 76
