1. Greenpeace is an international organization that protects the environment. 2. They have worked to end whale hunting and nuclear testing. They also fight against global warming, nuclear power, and genetic engineering. 3. The organization receives money from private donations only 4. The organization began in the early 1970s when it wanted to stop an underground nuclear test in Alaska 5. The US removed the activists and carried out the test, but a national outcry prevented additional tests. The area was later turned into a wildlife sanctuary. 6. Greenpeace is well known for its protests around the world. Of course they also attend international conferences, meet with politicians, advertise, and educate the public, just to name a few of the ways they fight for the environment. 7. They are most famous for the protests which involve “direct action”. 8. 'Direct action' is when volunteers sabotage or vandalize facilities, as well as arrange demonstrations and sit-ins. 9. Many of Greenpeace’s activities are considered illegal, either because they involve trespassing onto private property or they are acts of civil disobedience. 10. Some opponents have called the organization “environmental terrorists”.
Adelina Sotnikova is a famous Russian figure skater. She was born in Moscow, in nineteen ninety-six. Her great-grandfather, Alexandr Kochetov, is a hero of the Soviet Union. Adelina began to learn to skate when she was a girl of four. In two thousand eight she won the Russian Championship. She got ten thousand roubles and spent the money on treatment of her sister. In two thousand nine she won the Championship again and promised Vladimir Putin to win the Olympics. Five years later she kept her promise.
