New York is a cosmopolitan city and people from different places live there because they work study and do business. normally people are really friendly and polite. People come from different places not only from the USA so they speak different languages for example Italian, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Chinese and other languages. But all the people speak English because it is the official language.
New York is really famous all over the world because it's a financial center.
