4. Work in a group of four
a) Divide the story into passages and give headings to each of them:
- Introduction. Setting the scene and introducing the characters
- Conflict arises. The problem or challenge that the characters face
- Rising action. Events leading up to the climax
- Climax. The turning point or most intense part of the story
- Falling action. Events that follow the climax and lead to resolution
- Resolution. How the conflict is resolved and the story concludes
b) Use your list of headings as a plan to retell the story:
- Begin by introducing the setting and characters in the introduction.
- Describe how the conflict arises and what challenges the characters face.
- Provide details of the rising action, including important events and developments.
- Build up suspense and tension as the story approaches the climax.
- Describe the climax and its impact on the characters and the story.
- Outline the events of the falling action, leading towards the resolution.
- Conclude by explaining how the conflict is resolved and the story comes to an end.
By following this plan and using the headings as guideposts, you can effectively retell the story in a structured and coherent manner.
Cars burn petrol, factories and power station burn coal and emit toxis fumes, the air that we breather becomes polluted.This is called acid rain. When acid rain falls into laks, streams, rivers and seas, they become toxic. Acid rain also causes serious damage to important building and objects. The good news is that governments have been trying to reduce the air pollution that causes acid rain.
