Nobody knows what the first language was. But scientists feel sure that nobody speaks it today because all languages change and keep on changing as long as people use them. One language may change in different ways in different places and grow into several languages.

If we could meet the people who spoke English five hundred years ago, we probably couldn′t understand much what they said.

English itself is a mixture of several languages. Scientists believe that these languages and many others all grew out of the same language which they call Indo-European. Nobody speaks it now. But some of its descendants are Latin, German, English, French, Greek, Russian and many of the different languages spoken in India.

Britain and America were once described as nations divided by a common language. Just what is difference between the English spoken in Britain and America?

The first English settlers to reach America arrived in Virginia in 1607 and in Massachusetts in 1620. They all spoke English of the early seventeenth century – the language of Shakespeare and Milton. Most of them came originally from the south and south-east of England. Although some of them had spent some years of exile in Holland they spoke with the accents of the southern part of their home country. To a large extent they kept that form of speech, but they soon learned to give old words new uses. They also took words from the local Indian languages for plants and animals that were new to them.

Until the Declaration of Independence in 1776 over two-thirds of the settlers in what later became the U.S. came from England. After that date many other people came to make a new life for themselves in the New World. These included Irish, French, Germans, Dutch, Italians, Slavs, and Scandinavians. All these people gave new words to the language of North America. The Negroes who had been taken from Africa as slaves to work on the rice and cotton plantations added words and structures from their own native languages. Some people today think that the very American expression O.K. comes from a similar expression which was brought to America by the Negroes.

All these people contributed in various ways to the language which was to become American English. Most civilizations and cultures – in their writings, traditions, folk stories – have traces of the old language.

ответ:Radio Радио

One of the most wonderful discoveries made by man is radio. It is the wireless transmission of signals or sounds through free space. By all means, it is something worth using. Many famous scientists have worked on the radio creation, including Nicola Tesla and Thomas Edison. However, the first radio receiver was introduced by Russian physicist Alexander Popov in 1895. Since its appearance, radio has been used for various purposes. Its early uses include sending telegraphic messages with the help of Morse code. It was also used during the wars for sending diplomatic and confidential messages. Before the advent of television, radio was used for broadcasting not only news and music, but dramas, comedies and other shows. From late 1920s till mid 1950s radio was the only means of mass media that used sound. Today, we use radio mainly for listening to music and the daily news. People who drive cars listen to it to get information about the road traffic. As for me, I like certain radio tunes, especially Europa Plus. I think it’s the best radio channel in our country. When I want to listen to English speech, I turn on the BBC channel. Mobile phones and MP3 players have made this even easier. I can listen to the radio anytime and anywhere I wish, not only at home or in my dad’s car. Radio is also one of the most powerful means of media. That’s why many large and small businesses advertise on radio nowadays. The thing I enjoy about radio is its entertaining power. There are many funny jokes, personal horoscopes, interactive games and interesting talk shows on the air.

Reported Speech:

Есть правило согласования времён.

В нашем случае было два варианта указания косвенной речи. Это можно заметить по времени (Mary said) и настоящему (Mary says).

В случае с настоящим временем меняются только временные указатели, личные, указательные, объектные местоимения, притяжательные прилагательные(в зависимости от контекста):

this/these > that/those          yesterday ---> the previous day

I/we > he/she/they                 here ---> there

me/us ---> him/her/them            last week ---> the previous week

my ---> his/her                             today ---> that day

our ---> their                                 now ---> at that time/then

Я указал не все возможные изменения.

В настоящем(says) времени не нужно как-то изменять само время.

Если нужно переделать предложение на время(told/said), то нужно знать согласование времён:

Present Simple ---> Past Simple

Present Continuous ---> Past Continuous

Present Perfect ---> Past Perfect

Past Simple ---> Past Perfect

Future Simple ---> Future in the past
