arose from the disobedient Valentine. In the III century A.D. e. Emperor Claudius issued a decree prohibiting marriage. He believed that marriage would tie the soldiers to the house () and they would not be able to bravely fight for Rome. The young Christian priest (priest) Valentine did not heed (didnotheed) the decree and married the lovers who wanted to unite in secret. It seems that it was at this time that marriage, having become a forbidden fruit, was especially sweet. However, for Valentine, the case ended bitterly: the emperor ordered him to be imprisoned and executed.
The brightenup of the disgraced priest was the daughter of the jailer / warder, for whom he wrote touching messages. Of course, they fell in love with each other. Before his execution - February 14, 270 - he sent his beloved farewell, filled with tenderness a note "from Valentine." Such messages later became a symbol of the holiday.
