It was Tommy’s birthday. Tommy knew that in the evening at

the birthday party he  has to get lots of surprise

gifts from his friends and family. But this was not what made

him so happy.

GO

21 Dad promised that at the twelfth  birthday after school

Tommy’s dream would come true. They would go together to

adopt a dog from an animal shelter.

TWELVE

22 It took them 30 minutes to get to the shelter. THEY

23 On their way Tommy couldn’t stop talking his dad what

kind of dog he wanted. Not too big and with short pointy ears.

TELL

24 He see's  such a dog a month before in the park. SEE

25 It was playing merrily with the child. CHILD

26 As soon as they entered the shelter, Tommy found his

new friend. It was bright red, with short pointy ears and it was

looking at Tommy with great interest from the cage.

FIND

27

Tommy ran up to the cage. “I want him!” he said. His dad

couldn’t believe his eyes. “But it’s a cat!” he said. “Are

you serious? Didn’t you want a dog?”

BE

28 “I don’t care!” said Tommy. “He’s the best in the

world!”

Відповідь:The first of January, New Year’s Day, is a big holiday in Scotland. Scottish people celebrate New Year’s Eve in every family. Friends usually come on that day.

They have a good dinner. After dinner there are apples, other fruit, and different sweets to eat. Then all the family and the friends begin to play games and dance. Before twelve o’clock at night many people in the towns go out into the streets to dance and to sing songs. In England New Year’s Day is not a big holiday, it is not so popular. Very many people go to bed before twelve o’clock on New Year’s Eve. But some families celebrate this evening at home. At midnight they also go out into the streets and squares.

In London people go to the Trafalgar Square. In this square they see a great tree brightly decorated with little lamps. When the largest clock of London — Big Ben — begins to strike twelve, the people in the square join their hands and sing. They also wish a Happy New Year to each other. New Year is one of the favourite holidays for many people in Great Britain.
