Monarch without a kingdom I. This November a hundred million butterflies will drop from the sky over Mexico, like

autumn leaves. But for how long? Genetically modified maize could mean extinction for this

beautiful butterfly. Rafael Ruiz reports.

II. In November, millions of Monarchs fall like bright, golden rain onto the forests in the

mountains of central Mexico. In the silence of these mountains you can hear a strange flapping

of wings, as the Monarchs arrive at their destinations. 1)

III. Before reaching their journey’s end they have faced strong winds, rain and snowstorms

and they do not all manage to reach their destination. When the winters are really bad, perhaps

70 per cent of them will not survive. Their long journey to Mexico is thought to be one of the

most amazing events in the whole of the American continent. When they get there they will stay

until the beginning of April, when their internal calendar tells them that it is time to go back.

2).

IV. These delicate creatures now face danger of another kind – from scientific progress.

3) . Laboratory experiments have shown that half of the

butterflies which feed on the leaves of genetically modified maize die within 48 hours. Not all

experts agree that this variety of maize is responsible for the threat to the Monarchs. In spite of

these doubts, the European Union has refused to approve new crops of genetically modified

maize until further investigations have been carried out.

A. In the US, millions of farms grow genetically modified maize which is pure poison for

the butterfly.

B. In the mountains, which reach a height of 3,000 metres, the butterflies are safe.

C. According to the investigations of the European Union, the Monarch butterfly may

disappear in several decades.

D. The long journey, with all its dangers, begins again.

Tourists - people who travel around the country or go abroad in order to get a good rest. In popular tourist areas well-developed infrastructure, which is why today, in many countries, tourism is one of the most important industrial sectors. As you know, three quarters of tourists are citizens of the twenty richest countries in the world and most of them prefer to travel to Europe or North America. However, according to recent data, more and more tourists are visiting and other parts of the world. Someone wants to take a picture of a safari in the African reserves, and someone to conquer the Himalayas.

Tourism as a sector of the economy of the country, can be very productive and profitable in solving complex problems that satisfy the one hand the interests of regions and organizations engaged in tourism, the presence of permanent and sustainable source of income, and on the other hand - the interests of end consumers - tourists from Russia and other countries.

Tourism also accelerates the development of a number of industries: construction, production of goods increased tourist demand, Urban Affairs, and others. In Europe, created a pan-European system of tourist roads, helped by a large influx of sleeper. Tourism has stimulated the development of production of souvenirs, jewelery, printing, specialized in publishing books for tourists. Tourism - one of the major sources of creating new jobs.

Accompanied by the development of tourism as well as the advantages and difficulties, although it contributes to employment. Poor countries have to find huge funds for the construction of roads, airports and other facilities in areas frequented by tourists. This fact shows that it is much less money goes to the development of vital sectors of the economy for their own citizens. Another drawback is that the influx of tourists adversely affecting the ecology of those areas they inspect. For example, the oldest buildings of Greece and Egypt attract large numbers of tourists, but the emissions from vehicles cause harm them unique.
We conclude that this is still a developing tourism industry, which provides great opportunities tourist country in the growth of the economy and partly destroys what these countries to attract tourists!

My Favourite Season

There are four seasons in a year: winter, spring, summer and autumn.

My favourite season is spring. Spring months are March, April and May. In spring nature awakens from its long winter sleep. The days become longer and the nights shorter. The sun usually shines brightly in the sky. It often rains and sometimes there are even thunderstorms. There are puddles in the streets. The air is very fresh, so I like to go for a walk after the rain. When the weather is sunny, I like going to the park or forest and watch the birds and insects. I also have my holidays in spring. I spend a lot of time with my friends outside. We ride our bikes and play games. I like spring very much.
