SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT FOR TERM (GRADE 7) SPECIFICATION OF SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT FOR TERM 4

Review of summative assessment for term 4

READING

Task. Read the text and answer the questions below.

THE BEST WAY TO UPDATE YOUR WARDROBE

by: ChloeBlogger

On average, we only regularly wear a third of the clothes that we own. Most of us have T-shirts we’ve never worn, jumpers that we have forgotten about and jeans that we stopped wearing five years ago.

However, we don’t often think about getting rid of our clothes and, if we do, we often don’t know the best way to do this. Throw them away or recycle them? Sell them online on special websites? Donate them to a charity shop?

When I moved to Leeds to go to university, I discovered Leeds Community Clothes Exchange (LCCE). It started in 2007 and has become a very popular event which happens once a month. You pay £3 to enter, and your clothes are checked (they must be clean and in good condition). You are then given one credit per item (so for example if you bring 7 items, you can choose 7 items to take home). The clothes exchange has become a community social event; people often spend a whole afternoon there with their friends!

You can get rid of the clothes you never wear and also can find exciting new clothes, at a total cost of only £3! I went to the LCCE throughout my time at university and never bought expensive clothes in high-street stores. Most of my clothes are from clothes swaps, and I love the feeling that I paid little for those.

Similar events happen across the UK. The LCCE is one of the most successful, and people are looking to set up branches in other cities such as Bristol and Manchester.

Read the text and choose the correct answer A, B, C, D or E.

Example. 0. How many clothes in their wardrobe people often do not wear?

New YorkNew York is one of the largest cities in the world. Its population is over 11 million people. New York is an industrial and cultural centre of the country. Most business is centred in Manhattan Island. The whole area is very small, that's why the sky-scrapers were invented in New York and, especially, in Wall Street. Wall Street is a narrow street with big houses, but it is well known all over the world as the busiest street in the USA. People do business there. There are two more world-famous streets — Broadway and Fifth Avenue. Broadway is the centre of the theatres and night life. It is known as “The Great White Way” because of the electric signs which turn night into day.It is the city that never goes to sleep. Buses and sub-way run all night. There are many drugstores and restaurants which never close their doors. There are cinemas with films that start at midnight. Fifth Avenue is the great shopping, hotel, and club avenue.New York is the largest port in America. More than half the trade of the United States goes through this city. There are many places of interest in New York. They are: the Statue of Liberty, the United Nations Building, Empire State Building, Columbia University, City Hall, New York Public Library and others. When you come to New York you see lots of cars, big and small, black and yellow, old and modem; you do not see any trees or flowers in the streets, but only cars. You'll see and hear advertisements everywhere. There is no getting away from them. Advertisements fill the newspapers and cover the walls, they are on menu-cards and match-boxes, they are shouted through loud speakers and shown in the cinemas.
