Sometimes, people are kinder and more generous than we can ever imagine, so we've decided to honour young people all over the world who have worked hard and who have really gone that extra mile to help a cause. In the spotlight this week, is Katie Spotz, who became the youngest person to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Breaking a record, however, was not Katie's only ambition. She wanted to do something far more important than accomplish a personal goal. This American girl rowed an incredible 4,533 km from Senegal to Guyana in her six-metre rowing boat to raise money and awareness for the Blue Planet Run Foundation, whose objective is to get clean drinking water to over 1 billion people worldwide. Katie rowed over ten hours a day for 70 days and raised over $70,000 for the foundation. She hopes her feat will encourage other young people. Do you know any more stories about amazing young people who have overcome obstacles to help others? Post them here!

Wow, Katie really deserves our respect! I know of another person who did something physically difficult to help a charity. An eighteen-year-old named Chris Albertyn once broke his ankle so badly that the doctor said he might never walk properly again. Amazingly, he climbed 6,000 metres to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. He did it with 59 other students and together they raised a total of £138,000 for Childreach International, a charity that helps children and their families who live in poverty.

Both Katie and Chris are a true inspiration to everyone! Here in Lincoln, England, Luke Birch is a bit of a local hero. He swam 33 km across the cold waters of the English Channel for charity. The scary thing is that he got stung by a jellyfish. Unfortunately, the rules of the charity event didn't allow him any assistance, so he kept swimming, despite the pain of the sting. It must have been tough for him with the rough waters and windy conditions, but Luke persisted and arrived in France after 14 hours! Thanks to his determination, he raised £7,885 for Macmillan Cancer Support in the UK and Planting Promise, a charity that helps build schools in Sierra Leone. Luke really overcame obstacles to help people in need!

So...De-extinction is the process of creating an organism which is – or greatly resembles – a member of an extinct species (1). Contemporary biotechnology offers various promising alternatives for achieving this purpose, including the techniques that have already been applied to preserving endangered species (2). De-extinction requires an in-depth study of the biophysical conditions where the species can live and reproduce in relation to other species – including humans – and adapt to the environmental changes. In any case, risk and harm evaluation on the impact of the “re-birth” of species is necessary. There is a number of crucial ethical issues concerning de-extinction. They include the meanings of concepts such as “nature,” “species,” “evolution,” “biodiversity,” “death,” and “wildlife” in relation to human behavior and human impact on nature (3). In 2013, de-extinction became popular through press and public events; the National Geographic devoted a cover story to this topic and presented various possibilities and scenarios about the most suitable candidates. The Revive & Restore network, with the support of TED and in partnership with the National Geographic Society, convened the TEDxDeExtinction conference bringing together conservationists, genetic technology practitioners, scientists, and ethicists (http://www.ted.com/tedx/events/7650). Because the revival of extinct animals inspires imagination (4), de-extinction has been a topic of science fiction novels, such as John Brosnan’s Carnosaur (1984) and Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park (1990) and their film adaptations.

Following a systematic philosophical and ethical analysis on animal de-extinction in the context of ecological restoration (3), this article analyzes de-extinction from the standpoint of bio-objectification and considers how de-extinction is a case of bio-objectification.

My native city is Rostov-on-Don. It is the capital of the Don area. It was founded in 1749. It is situated on the right bank of the river Don.

In the past Rostov was a small town with small population. But now the territory of Rostov-on-Don is 380 square kilometres and the population is more than one million people.

Our city is a big industrial, scientific and cultural centre in the South of Russia. The plant “Rostselmash” is known not only in our country but abroad as well.

The largest scientific and educational establishment is the Rostov State University, which was founded in 1915 and now has more then ten faculties.

In Rostov there are four theatres: Gorky Drama Theatre, Musical Comedy, Puppet Show, Theatre of Young Spectators. The Gorky Theatre is surrounded by a large park named after the October Revolution. It is one of many parks and gardens which make Rostov a green town and where Rostovites like to walk on a nice sunny day.

During the Second World War Rostov-on-Don was occupied twice (1941 and 1942). The war cost Rostovites huge losses in life. That is why in the city there are a lot of monuments devoted to the war years and people who gave their lives for our peaceful life.

Rostov-on-Don is a large transport centre. It is not only a big knot of railways and airways but it is also the port of five seas (the Baltic, the White, the Caspian, the Black and the Sea of Asov).

Nowadays Rostov-on-Don as many other cities and villages in Russia is undergone the process of economical changes. But we hope that in some years people will be able to overpass all the difficulties and Rostov-on-Don will occupy its place of one of the biggest industrial cities of Russia.
