Can scary things be fun? Of course, if we are talking about the traditional celebration of Halloween in the UK. Skeletons and ghosts, evil pirates and homicidal maniacs, demonic creatures and alien aliens on this amazing day are mixed with jokes, treats and children's laughter.

The history of the holiday began in pagan times among the Celts who inhabited the territories of the British Isles. Traditionally, at the end of autumn, it was customary to celebrate the end of the harvest noisily. The symbolic day of October 31, exactly before the beginning of winter (in England November is the first winter month) was considered a symbolic and very important day. Initially, the holiday was called Samhain or Samhain. The ancient Celts believed that it was during Samhain that the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the afterlife of spirits were erased. Moreover, it is not pure and kind forces that come out of the otherworldly light at all. In order to appease the evil spirits, it was necessary to conduct a number of special rituals. Many of which are found in the modern version of celebrations.

How is Halloween celebrated in England? There are actually a lot of traditions. Firstly, on this day it is customary to dress up and decorate their homes. And these decorations are very specific - the more frightening images you can create, the better. The British believe that for a successful disguise among the dark forces that appear in abundance on the streets on October 31, it is necessary to resemble them as much as possible. Favorite characters on this day: a black cat, a ghost, a pirate or an evil genius. Every year, the list of new "terrible" costumes is updated with movie characters or stars with bad fame. Do not forget about the decoration of houses, offices and shops, which are filled with skeletons, garlands of eyeballs or cobwebs.

During the time of Christianity, the name of the pagan holiday was transformed into the version that is known all over the world today. Halloween or in English Halloween is celebrated in October on the 31st on the eve of All Saints' Day, which falls on the first of November. But the main features of the former Celtic day before the winter season have been preserved.

The most famous symbol of Halloween is a pumpkin, decorated in the form of a terrible grimace with a candle burning inside. They call such art - Jack-O'-Lantern or Jack Lantern. Making these lanterns is a traditional family entertainment before Halloween. During the celebration, it is customary to place pumpkin lanterns on the windowsills to frighten passers-by.

Another mandatory attribute of the holiday was the children's entertainment "Trick-or-Treat" - A Draw-or-Ransom. Kids dressed up according to Halloween traditions are knocking on their neighbors' doors in small groups with a large bag at the ready.

Halloween is marked by mass celebrations, masquerades, a special selection of horror films on television, as well as special discounts and sales in stores. When the owners open, they are offered a choice of "paying" the ransom or being played. Sweets, fruits or small coins are accepted as a payoff, but if the owners of the house decide to be greedy, they can get "surprises" with the house or garden in retaliation. But, of course, it is mandatory for adults to prepare a supply of treats for children.

1. likes

2. don’t ride

3. Do your grandparents come frome England? ( в задании Present Simple)

4. live

5. doesn’t want

6. Does Jake help at the zoo?

7. watch

8. doesn’t live

9. don’t go

10. weigh

11. lives

12. don’t want

Объяснение:

В Present simple в 3 л. ед.ч. (he,she, it) в утвердительных предложениях к инфинитиву глагола прибавляется окончание -s: he speaks, she works, it lives.

Does he speak?, Does she work?, Does it live?

В отрицательных предложениях также  используется вс глагол Do или Does + частица not + инфинитив глагола. They do not (don’t) speak, he does not (doesn’t) speak.

One of my favorite literary characters is not a strong man with huge muscles, but just a little boy, very lonely and therefore so touching. You probably guessed that this is the main character of the Little Prince fairy tale, which was written by the French writer and pilot Antoine de Saint Exupery. His hero, this unprotected child, lived alone on a small, tiny planet, the size of which was equal to a simple house. Every morning he was busy cleaning this very planet, weeding out the seeds of the baobab plants. He very diligently looked after the beautiful rose, which grew like a miracle from a seed. But the flower constantly offends the little prince with its barbs, he is capricious all the time. And one fine day, the boy decides to leave the rose and go on a trip to other planets. Wherever he had not visited, but everywhere he felt lonely, he was a stranger to everyone.
