The home of famous people London has been the home of many famous Englishmen. Some were born there. Some lived there all their lives. Others lived in London only for a short time but all gave something to this great city.
A) Born in Stratford-upon-Avon, William Shakespeare also lived in London. He lived there for more than twenty years. He acted at the Globe Theatre and wrote his plays in London. Most of his plays written there are popular nowadays.
B) Sir Christopher Wren, the architect, spent most of his life in London. He designed many beautiful churches, including St. Paul’s Cathedral. He also designed palaces and fi ne houses.
C) Another famous London figure is one of the famous seamen. Admiral Lord Nelson. He has a special memorial in Trafalgar Square. The monument consists of a very tall column. On top of it stands a figure of Nelson. It is called Nelson Column.
D) The Duke of Wellington is a famous general, who led the army at the battle of Waterloo in 1815. People also know him because they wear rubber boots called Wellington boots. His house stands at Hyde Park Corner. People know it as Number One, London. The Duke of Wellington and Admiral Nelson are buried in St. Paul’s Cathedral.
E) George Frederick Handel arrived in London in 1710. He became famous when he composed “The Messiah” and “The Music for the Royal Fireworks”. Like many other great artists, Handel is buried in Westminster Abbey.

Trips through the mountains are dangerous and exhausting
It takes ages to get to the Moon and back
Local citizens suffer from diseases, hunger,thirst, and wild animals
I prefer to travel by car
