Глаголы must и have to показывают долженствование, обязанность, но их значения различны. Must подразумевает, что вы верите в то, что должны что-то сделать. Вы считаете это правильным и нужным. Must переводится обычно как «должен», «обязан». Have to переводится словами «приходится», «вынужден» и показывает, что вы должны что-то сделать, так как этого требуют обстоятельства. По этой причине глагол must считается самым «сильным» из глаголов, показывающих обязанность: то, во что мы сами верим, для нас важнее и «обязательнее» всего.
I must go now. It’s getting dark. – Я должен уйти. Темнеет.
I have to go now. It’s getting dark and I won’t catch a taxi to get home. – Я вынужден уйти. Темнеет, я не смогу поймать такси и уехать домой.
