Tashkent (UZB. Toshkent, Tashkent) is the capital of Uzbekistan, the city of Republican subordination, the administrative centre of Tashkent region. The largest in population city in Uzbekistan and Central Asia, the centre of the Tashkent city agglomeration, the most important political, economic, cultural and scientific center of the country, as well as aviation, railway and automobile hub. Administrative Tashkent is divided into 11 districts. Tashkent is among the five largest cities by population among CIS countries. The population exceeds 2.3 million people.
