The great German composer Ludwig van Beethoven was born on 16 December 1770 in the city of Bonn. His father, a singer, recognized very early the unusual musical talent of the eldest son Ludwig and gave him his first music lessons. Ludwig appeared for the first time in a public concert at the age of eight, and published his first composition at the age of twelve. At the age of 16, Ludwig van Beethoven moved to Bonn University. Here he eagerly studied literature, philosophy and other sciences. In 1786 Beethoven first came to Vienna and became acquainted with the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The young Beethoven played Mozart several pieces of other composers on the piano. Mozart listened quite indifferently. But when Beethoven began to improvise, Mozart became more and more enthusiastic.
