В 1847 году знаменитый кондитер Томас Смит, находясь в канун Рождества в Париже, подсмотрел, как его французские коллеги заворачивали миндальные сладости в праздничную упаковочную бумагу. В 1847 же году вместе со своим другом лондонским кондитером Джеймсом Ховеллом, Том Смит придумал рождественскую хлопушку!
